The ideas in this book are amazing, but there are so many of them they don't get their chance to shine like they should. Same with the characters, so many, and some really interesting so I'd love to get to know them better; but then there's too many and I spent a large portion of the story asking "wait, who is this?". That was frustrating and completely took me out of the mystery and all the potential tension on the island. I liked this one better than her other book I read, but it still just wasn't right. I think had she been willing to just dive in and give us all the information on the head-mates and everything/everyone else, it could have been a truly spectacular story. Yes it would have been long, but anyone that enjoys reading wouldn't have minded for the reward of a great story. I won't give up on this author, but maybe she needs a better editor? (read less)

I just could not get into this try as I did and now give up marking it DNF at 66%. The character has dissociative identify disorder and is confused about everything that is happening. So was I. The setting was interesting - a castle on a mostly deserted island gave all the Gothic feels. I was listening to the audiobook as I followed along in the e-book ARC provided by the ppublisher and the narrator was great and voiced the MANY characters quite well. The plot, as it were, was meant to be a mystery but at this point there was yet to be the murder. Moving on. (read less)
